ABOUT ABOUT

Join Shirin Neshat for a lecture at the School at ICP.

Shirin Neshat is an Iranian-born visual artist based in New York. Using various visual media, Neshat explores universal ideas around human identity against the backdrop of Iranian society. Through her poetic imagery, she responds to complex ideologies behind contemporary Islam, including the role of gender and the inherent tension between tradition and modernity.

Neshat is represented by Gladstone Gallery in New York, and Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont in Paris. She has exhibited widely both nationally and abroad, and has received numerous awards including the First International Prize at the Venice Biennale (1999), and the ZeroOne Award from the Universität der Künste Berlin (2003).
